Ramey 2017 Rodgers Creek Syrah, Sonoma Coast
$54.00Ramey 2017 Rodgers Creek Syrah, Sonoma Coast
Rare Syrah from Ramey - limited.
96 Points Robert Parker: "The Ramey 2017 Syrah Rodger's Creek Vineyard, co-fermented with 12% Viognier, has very pretty aromas of blackcurrant streaked with menthol, violet, bitter chocolate and coffee nuances. The full-bodied palate has a concentrated core of mint-laced fruit supported by powdery tannins and bright acidity, and it has a long, nuanced finish. It has the potential to mature gracefully over the next decade."
96 Points Jeb Dunnuck: "A deep red/purple, the Ramey 2017 Syrah Rodgers Creek Vineyard includes the classic addition of 12% Viognier and is fresh and spicy with notes of wild lavender, smoked peppercorn, and blackberry coulis. Full-bodied, with good lift, it reveals crunchy plum fruit, ripe tannins, and a gravelly texture. This fantastic red from this hot vintage demonstrates both what these cool sites and what Syrah are capable of. Drink it over the next 10 or so years."
This unique property is on the western, cooler side of Sonoma Mountain, in the Petaluma Gap AVA, is home to vines planted back in 2002 800 feet up the southwestern face of the mountain. The vines of Syrah and Viognier grow upon old, rocky volcanic soils. The blend is 90% Syrah and 10% Viognier. After harvest the Syrah grapes are left whole cluster at 30% and the Viogner is co-fermented. The wines are then aged sur lies with monthly bâtonnage and rested 25 months in 100% new French barrels. The final result is bottled without filtration.
