If you love the hedonistically rich, classically California styles of Turley, Saxum, or L'Aventure...you’re going to want some of this. Turley Cellars alum, Brennan Stover, used his years traveling up and down the wine regions of California to his advantage, finding an idyllic plot of land in the Adelaida District of Paso Robles. 93 Points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2019 Chapter IV is a 70/30 split of Grenache and Graciano coming from a single vineyard in the Adelaida District. It has a solid bouquet of red plums, mulled cherries, incense, and Christmas spice to go with a medium-bodied, elegant, beautifully balanced, elegant style on the palate. I love its balance, it has terrific tannins, and is just a beautiful Grenache that will keep through 2029."
About the winery: "Quench & Temper is produced by Turley's longest standing employee who is also their awesome viticulturist. The story behind this wine is this vineyard was established in 2013. The vineyard was a mess with old beat up cars strewn across the landscape but Brennan saw potential. The soil was perfect for vineyards that is made up of siliceous shale and marine sediments. The vines are trained Echalas style, the traditional training of Cornas and Hermitage of the Northern Rhone Valley. The site is dry-farmed and the vines exhibit extreme stress and resilience. Hence where the name derives from, the extreme conditions of climate and site contribute to the development of strong vines which have survived the extremes of climate but have risen from the ashes to create this beautiful wine full of renewal and transformation. "Their struggle becomes their strength."
